Kelly, 1887, records: ‘Princess Charlotte of Wales’ (Royal Berks Regiment), 1st Volunteer Battalion, K Company; armoury, Coffee House, Market place’ and also the presence of ‘Royal Berkshire Yeomanry, D Troop.’ He adds that, ‘The G Company of the 1st Volunteer Battalion Princess Charlotte of Wales’s (Royal Berkshire Regiment) has its head quarters in York road.’

By 1915, Kelly notes the ‘Drill hall, Springfield road.’
