‘The Drill Hall in Whitcliffe Road was erected in 1892 at a cost of £2,500, from designs by Mr. W.H. Howorth (a local architect). It is a building of stone, the ground floor contains a large hall 75 ft by 44 ft, orderly room and armoury with fireproof stores for cartridges. On the first floor is a billiard room, officers’ rooms, and a gallery for ladies. Attached is a residence for the drill instructor.’
