K12 Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment) 5th Battalion F Company
The Drill hall on Huddersfield Road was erected in 1891. A stone building, it was also used for entertainments.
It retains its original stone plaques. (Please see illustrations.) A banner at the apex says, ‘Drill Hall, E Compy, 2nd B.V.D.W.W.R.Regt’ Four foundation stones were laid on April 25th 1891, one by Col W T W Spencer Stanhope, CB, a second by Col T Brooke, a third by Col C E Freeman and another by C Lockwood, Esq, [The Royds].
Until the drill hall was opened, the Volunteers used Druids’ Hall
